I have worked on a wide range of UX projects, from requirements elicitation and project management, to usability evaluations, information architecture, interaction design, and conversion optimisation.
Posturite, the UK's largest ergonomic solutions company wanted to better understand their web users and e-commerce usability issues, so they could move forward with a mass re-development of their web strategy.
A wide range of deliverables, including use cases, user profiles, and e-commerce design recommendations that were used to further develop work I later conducted with the company.
Posturite, the UK's largest ergonomic solutions company wanted to develop on the previous UX research work I had conducted with them to implement UX strategies into their new e-commerce platform in order to generate higher revenue through improved conversion rate.
Posturite released their new e-commerce website, which was met with positive reception from their web visitors and an improvement in Net Promoter Score. Conversion rates were also improved by 20%, an impressive increase for a website with an average order value over £100.
Following the successful launch of their new website I worked on, Posturite wanted to further optimize their checkout to increase conversion rate and up take of registration.
I implemented a new simplified checkout and developed tooltips to create clarity on form fields. An alternative version of the Basket was also A-B tested aimed to address typical checkout concerns and clarify delivery policy.
The checkout conversion rate improved further from around 70% to 85%. The new basket version A-B tested was also found to improve click through rate to the checkout.
Posturite wanted to improve their customer's shopping experience further, following the release of their new website I did previous UX work on.
Research from a survey I conducted suggested that a compare product feature would enhance the customer user experience greatly in simplifying decision behavior. I worked on better understanding the customer user journey with user flows and worked out how best to integrate the compare feature into the existing website. Through user testing I iteratively designed and then coded the feature to support the aims of the project.
A slick compare feature built in Javascript, with optimised interaction design allowing users to select and compare products under different filter options. This was integrated into the customer user journey by allowing users to add products to compare from the category pages.
MediRite wanted to improve the e-commerce experience for their web customers to increase conversion rate
The client received a highly usable e-commerce website optimsied for conversion. Conversion rate was improved by 30% in the proceeding months. A larger competitor later bought out the brand, taking the website as part of their e-commerce strategy. For myself it was a great success seeing my UX work translate into measurable gain
The client Canonical wanted to work with a User Experience Designer to conduct an extensive usability study of the Operating System Ubuntu (9.04).
I ran a four month study that included:
Canonical learnt some important lessons about their users and usability issues for both novices and experts. Design recommendations were shared with the Open Source Community for future work of Ubuntu releases. I learnt a lot from running one of the most extensive usability study of the world's largest open source operating system.
TGSi, a Brighton based development agency wanted a new website.
I worked with the client through, requirements, wireframes, graphic design, HTML/CSS templates to an updatable dynamic PHP/MySQL powered website with Javascript visual effects and accessibility features.
A well designed standard compliant website based on client requirements. I learnt how to work better with developers and picked up some development skills along the way.
Traveline.org.uk wanted to understand the usability of their online travel information portals and look at ways to improve the user experience for their visitors.
I led a team of six on a usability study of four of the regional portals. We worked through requirements elicitation, before conducting remote and live usability tests with 24 participants from three age demographics, as well as a separate cultural Iranian study.
A comprehensive set of design recommendations based on the study, presented to the board of Traveline clients. I gained great experience planning & running usability sessions and producing client presentations.
The Human Computer Interaction department at the University of Sussex wanted to develop a website to promote their MSC programme
I worked with a team of 12 students to design and develop a website. I worked as the Information Architect and used card sorting exercises to inform wireframes and site maps. I also developed content and conducted a WCAG 2.0 accessibility audit of the finished website
A highly usable website built to strict XHTML and WCAG 2.0 standards. I learnt some great UX skills and experience collaborating with larger design and development teams.
The environmental management department from the University of Sussex wanted to look at ways to make training more engaging for new staff using interactive technologies.
I worked with a small team to understand the client's requirements, then design and implement e-learning material into a 3D virtual environment.
The client gained an interactive approach to delivering learning material. I had another great opportunity to work on a client focused digital product.
Locomatrix, a GPS games company wanted to prototype concepts for their new mobile gaming platform.
I worked with a small team to understand the constraints of GPS led mobile gaming including basic testing in the wild. We developed a concept, Global Tennis, a variation of the Atari classic Pong, with real world movements tracked by GPS to simulate player movement control. Following functional and interface requirement elicitation, we iteratively developed both back and front end elements for the game.
The design work was presented to the client for further development of the prototype. I learnt to extend my skills into understanding both front end and back end aspects of software development.
I have built a number of websites. I enjoy and am profecient in both design and front end development.
